St. Joseph the Worker Parish was founded under Bishop Alexander Carter on July 15, 1963 and placed in the care of the Stigmatine Fathers
St. Joseph the Worker Parish was founded under Bishop Alexander Carter on July 15, 1963 and placed in the care of the Stigmatine Fathers. The Stigmatine Fathers also established what was then known as the Catholic Information Centre. The Centre was sold for the use as a Teen Centre in 2001. Fr. John Saracco was the first pastor of the parish and was here for 12 years until 1975. The Stigmatine Fathers left Sault Ste. Marie in that same year which was then looked after by the Diocesan Priests.

St. Aloysius Church in Gros Cap is administered by the pastor of St. Joseph's Parish. The present church was built in 1917 and was in charge of the Jesuit Fathers. According to Jesuit records, there was a chapel in Gros Cap built by the Jesuits in 1893 and was called the Presentation of the Virgin.
St. Aloysius Church in Gros Cap was closed in 2007 due to deteorating of building structure. It was never repaired and parishioners are now coming to the Sault for mass.
